The Association has a new Patron, pro tem, until confirmed at our Annual General Meeting.
He’s the Honourable Justice Paul Heath QC who succeeds the Honourable Justice Rodney Hansen CNZM who recently retired from the Bench.
Justice Paul Heath graduated LLB in 1978 from the University of Auckland and was admitted to the bar in the same year. After a period with the Department of Justice at Auckland as an investigating solicitor he went into private practice which took him to Australia and admission to the bar in the Capital Territory.
Soon after his return to New Zealand he commenced practice as a barrister sole in 1998. Justice Heath was a consultant to the New Zealand Law Commission from 1997 to 1999 and was then appointed a part-time Commissioner for three years. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1998 and a High Court judge in 2002. Justice Heath is based at the Auckland High Court. The appointment as Patron was made by the Association’s Council at its recent meeting.
Council also resolved to formally thank Justice Rodney Hansen for his term in office.
