The Association has a new President.
At last night’s Annual General Meeting Selwyn Haworth was elected President, replacing Colin Davis.
Ken McKay was named Vice President, elected unopposed, while the Council for 2015-16 will be Ric Carlyon, Tamati Howard, Dawn Jones, Neville Madden, Ian Marshall, Garry Nicholls, Les Smith, Susan Walker, Wallis Walker and Sheryl Wilson.
Pat Samson will again be the Association’s nominee for election to the Board of the Royal Federation of New Zealand Justices’ Associations.
New faces around the Council table will be Neville Madden, Ian Marshall, Garry Nicholls and Sheryl Wilson. Ric Carlyon, Tamati Howard, Dawn Jones and Les Smith were re-elected last night while Susan Walker and Wallis Walker continue on Council, both midway through their two-year term.
Senior High Court Justice, Hon. Justice Paul Heath, QC, was reappointed Patron, with Vice-Patrons Executive Judges Anne Kiernan and Jane Lovell-Smith along with Judges Charles Blackie and Philippa Cunningham.
Those present at the meeting accepted a recommendation from the outgoing Council that members’ subscriptions be increased by $5 to $55 (including GST).
It was also agreed to take a remit to the next Annual General Meeting of the Royal Federation seeking the right for any member-Association to propose amendments to Federation policy by giving notice of motion of its intention to do so. Wallis Walker, putting the matter before the meeting, said only the Board of the Federation can presently suggest changes in policy which is undemocratic: members should be able to do so, too.
